Seit den späten 1980er Jahren werden im grafischen Werk Josef Danners immer größere Formate und thematische Serien auf Büttenpapier wichtig. Beabsichtigt ist nicht Skizzenhaftigkeit, sondern mittels genauer handwerklicher Ausführung ein ikonenhafter Eindruck. Stark pigmenthaltige Pastellkreiden, Kohle, Grafit, Tusche und Leimfarben erzeugen den Eindruck einer „Malerei mit anderen Mitteln“.
Since the late 1980s ever-larger formats and thematic serial works on hand-made paper have become increasingly important in the graphic work of Josef Danner. The intention here is to create an iconic impression using an exact manual execution. Pigment-saturated pastel crayons, charcoal, graphite, ink, and distempers create the impression of a “painting by other means.”
